Jog and Shuttle for iTunes?

Posted in tech at 3:17 pm by mridley

Anybody know if there is some kind of like USB jog/shuttle wheel controller I can get that works with iTunes? It’s so annoying to have to click back and forth on the timeline and constantly overshoot where I’m trying to get to. When I’m feeling generous and do the shownotes for the Daily Source Code I tend to have to re-listen to parts a lot, like when people send in totally unintelligable promos with every effect their audio workstation supports and I have to figure out what the fuck the URL they are saying is after they’ve applied all kinds of crazy echo and reverb and computer generation and god knows what else.

So seriously…can I get a jog and shuttle wheel controller to fix this issue? It will make my stress level go down a lot. Links please.

    Check out the powermate:

    And it’s relatively cheap!

Does it work with the position in the track or just the volume in iTunes? Guess I need to do some googling, but this may work for me. Thanks for the heads up!

    cool thing gork!
I agree, the iTunes interface leaves much to be desired. If “shownoted” a couple of times using an actual iPod. The click-wheel allows jogging, after a couple of center clicks. It’s still too clunky…

The software lets you define all sorts of actions for it, so it’s incredibly useful in a variety of apps. I don’t know If what you want to do is possible with a keystroke then you can set up the PowerMate to do it as well. I haven’t actually used it in a while so it’s possible that the software has gotten better since I did.

Hm…well maybe it’s worth a try. I mean, I don’t know if iTunes lets you jog back and forth with a keystroke or not. Not as far as I know. Plus I’d like a little more “intelligent” behavior like allowing me to spin it slowly to shuttle through a few audio frames at a time, and then spin it faster to jog. Oh well. Worth a shot maybe.
